As winter approaches, the dropping temperatures bring joy to many—cozy evenings, holiday cheer, and warm sweaters. But for millions of underserved individuals across the United States, winter is a season of struggle. Families facing homelessness, low-income households, and vulnerable communities often lack access to adequate winter clothing to protect against the cold.
Since 1985, Narayan Seva USA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been committed to uplifting those in need, and this winter, we’re launching a campaign to collect and distribute warm clothing to those who need it most. By donating coats, blankets, scarves, and other essentials, you can help ensure that everyone feels the warmth of compassion this season.
Why We Must Donate to the Needy
Every person deserves the dignity of staying warm during winter’s harshest months. Donating winter clothing is a powerful way to make a difference:
-
Life-Saving Impact: Proper clothing prevents hypothermia and frostbite, critical for children, the elderly, and those living on the streets.
-
Restoring Dignity: A warm coat or blanket offers comfort and a sense of care, reminding recipients they are not forgotten.
-
Community Strength: Your donation supports shelters, community centers, and families in need, fostering hope and resilience across the U.S.
By giving through Narayan Seva USA’s winter clothing drive, you directly provide essentials to those facing hardship, ensuring they can face winter with confidence.
How Your Donation Helps—and Benefits You
Your contribution of gently used or new winter clothing—coats, sweaters, gloves, hats, socks, or blankets—makes an immediate impact. Each item is distributed to verified shelters, homeless outreach programs, and low-income families across the U.S., ensuring it reaches those in need. For 2025, donating to Narayan Seva USA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, also offers tax benefits under IRS rules:
-
Non-Cash Deduction: Donations of clothing are tax-deductible at their fair market value, as determined by IRS guidelines. For items valued over $500, new 2025 regulations require detailed documentation, such as receipts or appraisal records, for transparency.
-
Itemized Deductions: Deduct non-cash contributions up to 50% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) when itemizing, potentially reducing your tax bill significantly.
-
Strategic Giving: With the 2025 standard deduction at $15,750 (single) or $31,500 (joint), assess whether itemizing maximizes your savings. A bundled donation of clothing could push you over the standard deduction threshold.
We provide a donation receipt for tax purposes, and you can consult your tax advisor to optimize your benefits. Your generosity not only warms lives but also lightens your tax load.
The Impact of Your Donation
Your donated items create a ripple effect of care:
-
One Coat ($50 value): Keeps a child warm on their walk to school.
-
Five Blankets ($250 value): Provides warmth for an entire family during cold nights.
-
Bulk Donation ($1,000+ value): Equips a shelter with essentials for dozens of individuals, plus earns you a personalized thank-you and impact report.
Drop off items at our designated collection points or ship them to Narayan Seva USA’s distribution centers. Monetary donations are also welcome to purchase new clothing, with $50 funding one complete winter kit (coat, gloves, hat). Our goal is to collect 50,000 clothing items by March 31, 2026, to support communities nationwide.
